What is Collective Identity?

Collective Identity is the sense of belonging to a certain group. The factors that make up your identity could associate you with a certain group. e.g the way you dress could associate you with a certain group of people.

Tumblr Kids
Style-wise, mixing it up is key – high street brands with vintage, and keeping things edgy. Tribe members are likely to move into other Leading Edge tribes in a few years. For girls, the look is studded mini skirts, cartoon sweaters and dip dye hair. For boys, it’s skater influenced cool. Think mini versions of east London Hipsters – snapbacks, beanies, rolled up skinny jeans and ‘geek’ glasses.

Rahs

The real Rah lifestyle is aspirational but not half as unusual – it’s about pub lunches in the country, rugby and skiing, drinking games, chart music and cheesy pop, gap yahs and chilling out in Ugg boots and Jack Wills tracksuit bottoms. Rahs may stick with their tight-knit friends throughout uni and flash some cash on the heritage brands they love, but their wealth doesn’t make them innately elitist – they are in fact more likely to get a knocking from other Tribes than be ‘haters’ themselves.

Identity is influenced by other peoples views on the social class. The representation of the 'chavvy' teenager is is portrayed the most in the media, it is portraying all teenagers to be like this, when they're not.
